Extra Sensory Perception In Dogs

I found more stories to add to the first post on extra sensory perception in dogs, or ESP, and I would like to share them with you. There are many stories about the existence and display of ESP in dogs. Below are just some of the more popular ones.

A particularly famous story involved a shepherd named Prince. When his owner became trapped in one of the thousands of trenches in France during World War I, Prince was said to have swam the English Channel to find and rescue him. There have been no explanations as to how Prince managed to locate his owner in that seemingly impossible situation. The story gained much fame and even received international acclaim soon after.

Apart from this, there have also been stories about dogs being able to sense their own danger. One such story was about Flash, an old hunting dog. Whenever his owner picked up the shotgun, Flash would dash out of the door and into the field before the gun was even loaded. However, there soon came a day that his owner decided to put him to sleep due to his old age and sickness. When the gun was picked up this time, Flash disappeared under the house and was found trembling with fear in the farthest corner, unresponsive to commands or coaxing.

Another strange case is about a German Shepherd and his owner. During a long plane trip to New England, the owner’s plane crashed. He was saved by a farmer and warded in hospital. He kept his life but lay unconscious in the hospital ward. Back home in Georgia, at the exact time of the crash, the dog disappeared under the house and was found lying in a daze. It was unresponsive to commands and refused to eat or drink. Sometime later, his owner regained consciousness and the dog suddenly came out again and started to eat and drink, appearing perfectly normal.

However, none of these cases made as much news as the one about Daisy. Daisy’s case has even been verified and authenticated to be real.

On a New York City family’s vacation to a lake about 30 miles away from the city, they met and befriended a lovely dog and named her Daisy. Daisy charmed her way into their hearts and the family fell in love with the dog. Soon after, Daisy gave birth to 4 puppies which were welcomed into the family’s loving arms.

Unfortunately though, summer soon ended and the family decided to give Daisy and her puppies to a neighbour there while they returned to New York City. They felt that Daisy would be much happier in the freedom and space rather than their Manhattan apartment.

3 weeks later, they heard a scratching at their apartment door. They opened it to find Daisy there, carrying one of her puppies in her mouth. The family was stunned but elated and welcomed Daisy right in. The very next day though, Daisy disappeared. 5 days later, she came back with yet another one of her puppies. This went on until all 4 puppies were brought to New York City. No one seemed to be able to figure out just how Daisy was able to locate the family in a city as busy as New York and ESP would seem to be the only logical answer.

A fine story depicting the presence of ESP involves a Pennsylvanian family dog named Casey. Casey’s family had 3 young children who loved to camp in the great outdoors on weekends. In one particular instance, the boys’ parents had driven them out to their favourite campsite for the weekend, some 20 miles away from home. Upon seeing the boys settle down and set up their campsite, mum and dad drove home like they usually do.

That very night, they were awakened from their sleep when Casey started howling non-stop. Casey’s howl was so strange and persistent that the couple suspected something might be wrong with their boys. They quickly got out of the house and drove towards the camp site.

Along the way, they noticed a red glow in the night sky. Apparently, a forest fire was fast spreading towards the boys’ location. They sped up and got to the boys just in time, saving them from the menacing fire that was fast approaching them.

Another story involved a family dog in Virginia named Harry. A vet was taking care of Harry while his family was away on vacation. At one point in time, Harry suddenly started howling very strangely. His howl was so weird and agonising that the vet made a note of the time and day. When Harry’s family got back, the vet told them about their dog’s strange behaviour. Upon hearing about the time and day of the incident, the family was astounded. The time Harry started his strange howling was the exact moment they had been caught in a flash flood.

There are many things that modern science can not yet explain. However, despite the lack of conclusive evidence and a rational explanation behind ESP, there is next to no question that it certainly does exist.
